Sentinel Case Study :
Credit Union Invests in a Security Upgrade
Aug 9, 2021Customer :
The customer provides traditional financial services for its members such as checking, savings, mortgages, and credit cards while also offering less traditional services that include investing, insurance, and travel assistance.Environment :
The customer had a traditional perimeter security infrastructure for a financial institution. That included standard Cisco firewalls, antivirus and anti-malware technologies, as well as a number of security solutions from Microsoft for defense. Fortis was also monitoring portions of the customer’s environment through our security information and event management (SIEM) service.
Challenge :
After some serious concerns were raised by auditors, the customer expressed interest in tightening their security posture with some advanced solutions to better protect their environment and the sensitive information of their members. Sentinel had already been providing managed services for the voice and unified communications portions of the customer's environment, and the customer was eager to expand the relationship with this security refresh through Fortis.
Solution :
The Fortis team worked closely with the customer and our partners from Cisco to put together a comprehensive security strategy with some industry-best solutions intended to provide multiple layers of protection against any attacks. This included Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) security to keep data center elements safe, Cisco Umbrella for cloud security, AMP for Endpoint to protect users and their devices, a next-generation firewall (NGFW) with a wired and wireless Identity Services Engine (ISE) for security both inside and outside the network, as well as Catalyst switches.
Results :
The new security components were installed without incident, and significantly improved the protection of the customer’s network and environment. Auditors said they were very impressed with the changes, and the customer said they felt a lot more secure as a result. Sentinel’s relationship with the customer continues to grow as we embark on a new project to add software-defined networking (SDN) and upgrades to VMware, which will enable them to have greater control and customization over their environment.
