Sentinel Technologies Advances Cybersecurity Experience at Lewis University
Romeoville, IL – April 20, 2021— The Lewis University Cybersecurity Lab has been renamed the Sentinel Cybersecurity Lab in recognition of a $50,000 gift from Sentinel Technologies, a national business technology services provider headquartered in Downers Grove, IL.
“The gift from Sentinel Technologies will help us better support our courses in cybersecurity at the graduate and undergraduate levels” commented Dr. Ray Klump, associate dean of the College of Aviation, Science, and Technology and director of the Master of Science in Information Security program at Lewis University.
In computer science, Lewis University offers courses in networking, encryption, authentication, hacking, intrusion detection, cloud security, wireless security and critical infrastructures. Sentinel's gift supports the purchase of equipment and software licenses that will diversify and increase the types of hands-on lab experiences Lewis University students receive in those classes, as well as in classes that other academic units might offer, such as in criminal justice or business.”
It will also enhance the training space for the award-winning Lewis University Cyber Defense Group. That group attracts students from several different majors, all of whom are interested in learning as much as they possibly can about how computer systems work, are made vulnerable, and can be protected.
Brian Osborne, a Lewis graduate (’82) and Co-President of Sentinel Technologies and its cybersecurity offshoot Fortis, stated, “We’re pleased to provide this investment to further Lewis’ goal of preparing students to succeed rapidly in their careers after graduation.”
